If I use Draftsmith for a journal article, do I have to declare it?

Guidance on whether AI needs to be declared varies from journal to journal.

A good example of one that needs to be declared is JAMA. They ask about the following details (you can read their full article here):

Did you use AI, a language model, machine learning, or similar technologies to create or assist with creation or editing of any of the content in this submission (eg, text, tables, figures, video)? (Note: this does not include basic tools for checking grammar, spelling, references, etc.)

And those authors who answer yes to this question will be prompted to address 2 follow-up questions:

Please provide a description of the AI-generated content that is included in this submission and the name of the model or tool used, version and extension numbers, and manufacturer...
Please confirm that you take responsibility for the integrity of the content generated by these tools and that you have provided a description of such generated content and the name of the model or tool used, version and extension numbers, and manufacturer in the Acknowledgment or Methods section of the manuscript.

For the description of the AI-generated content, we recommend that you write:

"No AI content was created with AI. However, Draftsmith version 1 was used in the editing stage for paraphrasing. Draftsmith is made by Intelligent Editing Ltd."

If you're submitting to a journal that does not allow any AI use or you do not want to make a declaration, we recommend using PerfectIt which makes no use of AI in any way.
